'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' News, Update: Cast Member Michael Rooker Talks About Yondu Undonta and Upcoming Sequel

One of this year's biggest cinema hits, "Guardians of the Galaxy," has announced that the film is already available on DVD.

In light of this announcement, cast member Michael Rooker (space bandit Yondu Udonta) was called on for talks with film review websites Tribute.ca and Screenrant.com to discuss his character and its future in the upcoming sequel of GOTG.

Director James Gunn had actually Rooker in mind when he wrote about Yondu.

"For me there was no pressure. I mean he was thinking of me for this character and he wrote it sort of specifically to bring out things that he knows, just character traits that he likes about me and stuff," the 59-year-old actor told Tribute.

In a separate interview with ScreenRant's Andrew Dyce, Rooker also said that the part was created for him.

"You know what? He had mentioned to me that he was going to write something in there for me. And I, of course, am, like, thrilled. And I didn't know what it was. And I didn't know what it was for quite a while, actually," he admitted.

When asked about the "nature" of his character, Rooker shed some light on Yondu's motivation.

"I think Yondu would pick the side that best suits him and probably what would garner him to have the most wages and the best … Yondu is this kind of character that, for his whole life, he's worked for himself. And he's taught Peter Quill to do the same. Star-Lord has a lot of Yondu mixed in with him," the actor stated.

Tribute, meanwhile, came right into the question about Rooker reprising his part on the upcoming title.

"I know nothing. Everything I have is [the first] Guardians of the Galaxy. Yondu and this version of Yondu will just continue and we'll find more and more nuances and interesting aspects about Yondu," he revealed. "I'm very excited to get an opportunity to expand on this role. My fingers are crossed it will be just as good or even better than our first endeavor."

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is slated to hit the theaters on May 5th of 2017.
