'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Release Date, Latest News: More Females and New Characters for Sequel?

Marvel Studio's "Guardians of the Galaxy" was indeed a huge hit this summer. Surpassing the original Iron Man, GOTG become Marvel's third highest-grossing movie to date. Considering that big success, it's no surprise that there will be a "Guardians of the Galaxy 2."

Co-screenwriter Nicole Perlman confirmed the sequel saying it is indeed "going to happen" and that James Gunn would also return to be its helmer, according to Variety.

Following the San Diego Comic-Con 2014, GOTG producers announced that the sequel is currently in the works. In fact, Gunn told Film Divider that there are already "documents written up" for the installment's story and characters.

On top of that, Collider, in their report, cited a fan asking the 44-year-old director about the rumblings that "GOTG2" will bring in more female characters. Gunn confirmed that it will have more women but the roster of characters won't include Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel. The reason, as revealed, is that he and the writers wanted Peter Quill or Star Lord to be the only earthling in the movie.

Movie Pilot, on the other hand, mentioned Adam Warlock and The Collector to be the most likely new characters to take significant parts in the upcoming film. Warlock would be the leading contender to become Peter Quill's dad after Gunn confirmed it wouldn't be J'Son that is based in the comics.

The other mentioned character is currently stored in a cocooned state in The Collector's store. An ancient being, The Collector travels far and wide to find important "artifacts" from all over the universe. These specimens should then be used to repopulate the universe should there be someone who will be able to destroy it.
