'Guardians Of The Galaxy' 2 Spoilers: Sequel Rumored To Feature One Of Marvel Comics' 'Weirdest' Characters

According to a report in Geek.com, the upcoming sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will not only bring back the unlikely group of galactic heroes from the first film, but will also introduce what is considered to be Marvel comics' "weirdest" characters that ever came out.

The report cited insider information which claimed that a lesser known character but a fan favorite among Marvel comic book followers is going to be introduced in the sequel. It is none other than Ego, the Living Planet, who first appeared in a 1966 issue of "Thor." He later on appeared in other Marvel comics such as "Fantastic Four" and "Silver Surfer." In 2000, he was also part of the Marvel crossover storyline "Maximum Security" which included several series such as the "Avengers," "Iron Man," "X-Men Unlimited," and "Gambit."

The character of Ego is said to be quite an unusual one even in the Marvel universe. The planet, according to the report, came to be when The Stranger, who is a powerful space wizard, granted the planet consciousness. Ego became very ambitious and wanted to conquer other worlds, primarily by devouring them. It was Thor who put a stop to Ego. At one point, however, Thor managed to somehow reform Ego and even asked the planet to host a group called The Wanderers to live on the planet. Based on the character's storyline in "Thor," Ego looks to be a villainous force to contend with.

According to the report, Ego will fit perfectly in the "Guardians" universe of talking raccoons and a living tree (Groot), if this is indeed going to happen.

The character is also said to have ties with the "Guardians" universe. According to the report, the now reformed planet asked Rocket Raccoon to play exterminator in order to get rid of some space lice that was on him. Another "Guardians" character, Thanos, also tried to conquer Ego but to no avail. In the comics storyline, Ego is also said to have a "brother" who was also created by The Stranger.

This report though has not been confirmed by film director James Gunn nor Marvel, so fans will have to contain their excitement until then. The film bows in U.S. theaters on May 5, 2017.
