'Guardians of the Galaxy' Animated Series Premiere Date to Land in 2015

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is no doubt one of the best Marvel universe films this year and while fans are waiting for the sequel, Disney is slated to premiere its new "Guardians of the Galaxy" animated series in 2015.

Before the animated television series was confirmed by Disney, rumors of the series' conception go way back even before the film was released. Apparently, the series was being weighed against another Spider-Man cartoon series but Marvel has opted for the "Guardians" instead.

The animated series was then announced by Marvel during the San Diego Comic Con earlier this year, with a press release declaring the start of the project.

"Produced by Marvel Television, the series stars Peter Quill as Star-Lord, the brash adventurer who, to save the universe from its greatest threats, joins forces with a quartet of disparate misfits – fan-favorite Rocket Raccoon, a tree-like humanoid named Groot, the enigmatic, expert figher Gamora, and the rough-edged warrior Drax the Destroyer," the synopsis reads.

The series will take place after the events of the first movie and Thanos will be prominent figure in the storyline. Marvel Animation will be producing the show with producers Alan Fine, Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada, and Jeph Loeb at the helm.

"This is a very exciting time for the Marvel Animation Studio as we get to explore the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe by deveoping the first-ever Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy animated series," says Loeb, head of Marvel Television.

"After starring in the biggest movie of 2014, everyone wants more of Star-Lord and his crew – now they'll get it," he continued.
