'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' Is Sequel's Official Title

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige let it slip that the new title for the movie sequel is "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2." The slip was made during a media junket for another Marvel movie "Ant-Man," when a member of the press asked when the sequel will start production.

"We start shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 in February-March 2016," he said. When asked if this was the movie's title, he did not confirm if it is indeed the film's official title.

Later, movie director James Gunn took to Twitter and Facebook to confirm the news.

"Yes, the official title of the sequel to 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,'" he wrote on his Facebook page. "Kevin Feige recently let the title slip while doing the Ant-Man press which I'm really happy about because God knows I've let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page."

The movie title is an apt one, being a play on the name of the mixed tape ("Awesome Mix Vol. 2") that Peter Quill's mother left him as a present when she died, which he ended up discovering towards the end of the first movie.

The sequel, according to another SlashFilm report, is expected to be "more emotional" than the first movie. Gunn himself revealed this in an interview with Collider.

"It's gonna be exciting. I think it's a more emotional movie. I think it's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie 'cause we focus more intensely on some of the characters. We get to learn about fathers in the second movie, and I think we focus a lot on that," he said.

It was earlier reported that Chris Pratt cried after reading the script for the sequel. Fathers figure prominently in the upcoming film, from Quill's father and Yondu, Quill's father figure in the first movie, to villainous father Thanos.

Aside from tears however, Gunn also made an assurance that there will be lots of laughs too, saying that the second script is funnier than the first script, based on initial reactions.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.
