Guests Gather Worldwide for Church Exhibition in Hong Kong

An exhibition displaying the Bible ministry of the Chinese churches is currently being displayed at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center August 5-10

Since August 5, visitors from around the world have been gathering in Hong Kong for a special exhibition displaying the Bible ministry of the Chinese churches. The exhibition, currently being shown at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, is being organized by the China Christian Council (CCC), in conjunction with the National Committee of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement of Protestant Churches in China (TSPM) and the Hong Kong Bible Society.

The exhibit, entitled “A Lamp to My Feet and a Light For My Path,” running until August 10, covers the period from the founding of the People's Republic through the cultural revolution of the 1960s and '70s, when churches were closed and Bibles confiscated and destroyed, to the establishing of the Amity Press and the expansion of nationwide Bible distribution networks by the CCC/TSPM in collaboration with overseas Bible publishers, particularly Bible Societies.

Drawing the most attention so far is the exhibition's centerpiece—a long, solid woodcarving depicting the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The 5.4-foot high, 12.1-foot piece took three master woodcarvers more than three years to make. Zhang Wan Long, the chief artist of the carving had started on the piece of artwork in 2001 shortly after converting to Christianity. Zhang later plans to take the carving on an exhibition to Europe.

Other exhibits on display include historic printed Bibles and others handwritten in secret during the Cultural Revolution. Stories and testimonies of how believers preserved and shared their Bibles during those difficult times are displayed in texts and in short documentary videos.

Each visitor to the exhibition in Hong Kong is given a special souvenir Bible, and a daily Bible quiz offer as prizes the chance to visit Nanjing and Amity Printing Press.
