Gunman Found Dead after Killing 3 in Arkansas; 4 Others Critically Wounded

May 4, 2014|8:32 am

A man suspected of fatally shooting two people, including a 13-year-old girl, at an Arkansas home as well as a worker at a nearby business, was found dead inside a car Saturday. Four others were also shot, two of whom are said to be critically wounded.

A man and a 13-year-old girl were killed and four others were shot while they were apparently having a party inside the east Jonesboro residence in Craighead County, about 130 miles northeast of Little Rock, Saturday afternoon, The Associated Press quoted Sgt. Doug Formon of the Jonesboro police as saying.

Two boys, 10 and 8, were critically wounded and have been admitted to hospitals in Memphis, Tennessee.

Police received a 911 call about the shooting at the residence around 1:00 p.m. Minutes after arriving at the scene, police found a construction worker at a nearby business on Dalton Farmer Drive near U.S. 63 shot to death.

The suspected gunman was found dead in the driver's seat of a vehicle on a highway, according to Reuters. Witnesses saw the vehicle leaving the scene of one of the shootings.

While the suspect had a gunshot wound, it wasn't clear if he killed himself.

Neither the victims and nor the suspect have been identified. Police are still investigating and trying to determine the motive.

All of the victims and suspect are Hispanic, according to KAIT-TV.

Approximately 45 officers from Jonesboro, Bay, Brookland, Arkansas State Police, and Craighead County Sheriff's office responded to the shooting scenes.

Last month, a 73-year-old man, Frazier Glenn Cross, was arrested for allegedly opening fire and killing three people – two of them Christian – at and near a Jewish Center in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park.

Cross fired at five people on April 13 but missed two of his targets. Two males were shot in a parking lot outside the center, one dying at the scene and the other at a hospital later. The shooter then drove a mile away to the Village Shalom retirement community and killed a woman.

Cross, who is from southwest Missouri with a long history of anti-Semitism, is an Army veteran and retired truck driver who founded the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
