Halloween 2017: Anne Frank Costume Pulled Out From Online Stores Following Protests

A Halloween costume representing Anne Frank has been pulled out from online retail stores after it was met with protests from Jewish and other groups.

Many Jewish groups condemned the Halloween costume depicting Frank, a Holocaust victim who attained global fame after her diary telling her and family's story hiding from the Nazi regime was discovered and eventually made into a book.

For many groups, there are many other ways to remember Frank other than reducing her to a Halloween costume, hence, the protests. Because of the uproar, HalloweenCostumes.com pulled out the item from their online store.

"We would like to apologize for any offense this has caused. Due to the feedback from our customers and the public, which we take very seriously, we have elected to stop selling this costume immediately," the online retailer said in a statement.

In a Facebook post, the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect thanked HalloweenCostumes.com for acting swiftly on the matter as, after all, the group claims that honoring Frank is the core of their existence.

"There are better ways to commemorate her memory than a Halloween costume. We are pleased that the company acted swiftly," goes a part of the group's Facebook post.

Despite the online retailer's decision to stop selling the WW2 Anne Frank Girls Costume set, which includes a blue button-up dress, a green beret and a brown shoulder bag that collectively represents the possible clothing worn by young girls during the World War 2, it has been learned that third party-sellers have changed its label into "1940's Wartime Fancy Dress" and "World War II Evacuee Costume" and continue to sell them.

While it remains unclear if parents will spend their money on the said costume for their young girls this Halloween as it still exists in the market, reports claim that U.S. President Donald Trump, Wonder Woman, and Pennywise from the "It" movie will be this year's popular getup for Halloween.
