'Halo 3: Orbital Drop Shock Trooper' Remake Due in May, Free for Select Players of the Master Chief Collection

The remastered version of the 2009 "Halo 3: ODST" will be released in May, together with an update of the "Halo: Master Chief Collection." A "reimagined" version of the "Halo 2" multiplayer map Relic will also be added, according to reports.

343 Industries, the game developer, said: "We're excited about the progress of the Relic multiplayer map remake and the Campaign for Halo 3: ODST, both of which are on track to release within Halo: The Master Chief Collection next month with our next content update. Look for more details next month, including the final map name for the Relic remake, release date, and more."

"Halo 3: ODST" was originally released for the Xbox 360. This new remastered version is being released for the next-generation console, the Xbox One. It is a first-person shooter video game which is part of the "Halo" franchise. Unlike the other games in the series, "Halo 3" does not feature the main protagonist Master Chief. Players in the game play as Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, who are elite human UN space command soldiers.

According to another report in GameSpot, the game's developer never planned to bring "Halo 3" to Xbox One. The plan changed however when Microsoft encountered major server problems during the launch of another game in the "Halo" series, the "Halo: Master Chief Collection." They decided to include a remastered "Halo 3" in the compensation package that they were putting together for players of the "Master Chief Collection." This decision was reportedly based on what fans were asking for.

The new "Halo 3" version will be free for owners of the "Master Chief Collection" who played the game during the 2014 launch, from November 11 to December 19. It is not yet known if "Halo 3" will be sold separately to those who are newcomers in the "Halo" game series.
