Hassan Whiteside Injury Update: Heat Center Listed 'Day-to-Day' for Miami, Raptors' Valanciunas Out for Series

The two big men are important for their teams.

It's been an epic battle between the Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

However, one thing is definitely missing from the picture – the dominating big men for both squads.

At the moment, the Raptors old a 2-1 series lead after winning Game 3 in Florida, but the bigger news is that Heat center Hassan Whiteside injured his knee in the second quarter of that contest.

Hassan picked up the knock after colliding with teammate Luol Deng and the Heat revealed in their official Twitter account that Whiteside had an MRI.

In their tweet, it said: "INJURY UPDATE: MRI results on Hassan Whiteside's right knee confirmed a Sprained Right MCL. He will be listed as day-to-day."

This comes out as a huge relief to the Heat as they definitely need Whiteside if they want to overcome this deficit and win the series.

He has contributed well throughout the playoffs as he has averaged 12.0 points, 11 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in a little over 29 minutes per game.

Miami coach Erik Spoelstra expressed his relief to know that they can expect Whiteside back, telling reporters as tweeted by the team's official page: "It went as well as we could've expected. It's the best news we could've received."

Unfortunately for the Raptors, they will not see Jonas Valanciunas back on the court for the rest of the series following an ankle sprain.

The big man also went down in the same game as Whiteside but it appears to be more serious as the Raptors official Twitter page revealed he is out for the rest of the series.

The tweet said: "The Raptors announced Sunday centre Jonas Valanciunas will miss the remainder of the series vs. Miami with a sprained right ankle. #RTZ"
