'Heroes Reborn' Cast News, Update: 'Chuck' Star Speaks About His "Darker, Grittier" Role in The Revival Series

NBC's revival series "Heroes Reborn" has just happened and one of the interesting aspects in the new show is Zachary Levi's character, Luke Collins. A newcomer in the "Heroes" universe, Luke played a very crucial part in the fate of each of the evos in the series.

Although it closely pays homage to its parent show, "Reborn" however started with a notion that the superpowered beings are now peacefully co-habiting with the normal people. But then, a terrorist attack that took many lives happened and the suspicion was thrown over at the evolved humans.

Enter Luke and his wife, Joanne (Judith Shekoni), who got so mad for having lost their son in the same disaster. Driven by grief, Luke took the vow to eradicate all the evos.

Fans of the geeky, happy-go-lucky actor of Chuck Bartowski of "Chuck" may now start seeing Levi in a different light, which the 34-year-old himself had really wanted to happen in the first place.

Speaking with TVLine, Levi revealed that it is his utmost wish to depart from the Chuck image he has long been known for.

"I really wanted to play something that was darker and grittier and edgier and more f—ked up. I wanted somebody that had some problems," he told the media outlet.

He further revealed to TVLine how earnest he was to grab the role when he heard series creator Tim Kring pitching a character that ends up "in a very conflicted spot."

He also shared how he adored the original series and that even if he got to play a cool character like Chuck, still he feels "somewhat envious that they were mutants."

Despite having to play a role that is widely considered as a "villain" by many, Levi reasoned out that it is only his job to portray him "the way that I feel is the most honest to the way he's been written and what the trajectory is."

Aside from that, it is up for the viewers how to categorize Luke. After all, he added, the best villains are those people who strongly believe that they are doing the best thing.

"It'll be interesting to see what people's reactions are to the first two episodes and then moving on after that, [in terms of] his particular journey and trajectory," the actor teased.
