'Heroes Reborn' Spoilers, Cast News: Robbie Kay Shares Struggles to Get the Part of Tommy and Tommy's Relationship with His Mother

The initial success of "Heroes" definitely took everyone by storm. It's no surprise that when "Heroes Reborn" was announced, expectations were high. One of the actors that had to bear the pressure was Robbie Kay, who could have been immediately assumed to be a standout.

For TV fanatics, Kay may be most familiar for recently playing Peter Pan on ABC's "Once Upon a Time." However, for "Heroes Reborn," Kay plays the part of Tommy Clarke. Apparently, getting the role had not come as easy as many assumed, despite having starred in movies like "Pirates of the Carribean: On Stanger Tides." Kay recently opened up to Zapt2It about what had taken for him to get the part. He shares, "The entire process has been about seven months. I went to my first audition in mid-February, and I got the part after my studio test in early March. A few weeks passed, and then I came up to Toronto at the end of March. We began shooting in April, and have been at it ever since."

It seems that Kay's hard work had paid off now the show has finally aired. At the end of the second episode (since it was a 2-hour prmeiere), viewers were able to get an insight of Tommy's past. Apparently, Primatech kept Tommy under observation at one point. Transporting Joanne (Judith Shekoni) and Luke (Zachary Levi) revealed this information.

According to Access Hollywood, Kay also revealed more about Tommy's struggle to fit in and the relationship he has with his mother. Kay shares that at this point, both Tommy and his mother are focused more about protecting one another. For Tommy's mother, it is an innate duty to keep her son safe, however for Tommy, it becomes more of a payback since he feels partly responsible that him and his mother have been on the run all because of his powers. Kay shared, "I don't know if he necessarily resents his mother, but I think there is that really, real kind of strive for normalcy, that real kind of yearning for, 'I just want to be a regular kid,' and the fact that his mum is moving him around all the time kind of gets in the way of that, so I think there's a definite source of conflict, looking at that."
