Hide and Seek
When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord.
-Jeremiah 29:13-14 (NRSV)
DESIRING my daughter to have an intimate walk with God, I prayed, "Be real to her, Lord." One day she joined her cousins in a game of hide and seek. I observed their excitement of hiding yet hoping to be found - the adventure of the hunt, and the climactic, joyful reunion. Later, I asked my daughter, "Did you know that you can play hide and seek with God?" That got her attention. "Wouldn't that be something!" she replied.
That night I left a message for her to find in the morning. I wrote out Jeremiah 29:13 and added, "Try it!" At breakfast she read my note and smiled. She reached across the table and picked up a Bible. Opening it, she found wedged between the pages a forgotten note that her dad had written to her months before. The note read, "Ha, ha, ha. You found me!" We both laughed.
My daughter's experience that day spoke to her heart and began her daily quest for God. Seeking God is not simply going to church or learning facts about God. It is seeking with our whole heart through prayer, love, praise, and worship. God wants to be found!
PRAYER:
O God, help us to seek you above all else in this world. Teach us how to love, praise, and worship you in all we do. Amen.
