'Highlander' Movie Reboot Cast News, Rumors: Tom Cruise Rooted to Take Up a Mentor Role
Latest news about the upcoming "Highlander" reboot film suggested that Summit Entertainment is now rooting for Tom Cruise to play a role which Sean Connery did in the 1986 original version of the film, according to reports.
The Wrap cited sources saying that the "Minority Report" star is eyed to don the hat of the immortal Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, mentor to Christopher Lambert's (1986) Connor MacLeod.
At this point, there's still no confirmation whether or not the 52-year-old action star will take up the part. However, representatives from the Cruise camp said that "Highlander" is indeed one of "the many projects that come to him and he discusses."
The "Knight and Day" actor is still "far from talks" and that "he is offered tons of projects," they added.
One of the titles that are currently occupying the actor's schedule book is the production for the 5th installment of his hit action spy film "Mission Impossible." Aside from that, there's also the sequel to his 2012 action thriller "Jack Reacher" plus the plans to reprise his role as Maverick in the purported "Top Gun" second installment.
The reboot film project will be helmed by first-time director Cedric Nicolas-Tryoan. He has served as second unit director and visual effects supervisor on the Kristen Stewart-led "Snow White and the Huntsman."
The script was penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway with Melissa Rosenberg. Justin Lin, who was previously rooted to direct the movie, will now serve as its executive producer with Peter Davis.
