Hilary Duff Divorce: Actress 'Wants to Have Fun'; Mike Comrie's 'A Homebody'?

Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie's recent separation announcement undoubtedly shocked fans and a new report suggests that the split was caused by different lifestyles.

The Hollywood couple, who wed in 2010, reportedly spent 18 months in couple's therapy in an attempt to save their three-year marriage, but they ultimately decided to part ways. They share a one-year-old son, Luca.

"The honeymoon phase was over, and they realized they had little in common. She was always hoping to work things out," a source told LifeandStyle magazine.

The former "Lizzie McGuire" star, 27, and the retired hockey star, 33, reportedly found themselves growing apart after Comrie retired from the NHL in 2012 following his third hip surgery. The estranged couple found themselves having different interests.

"He's in the house all day, every day. It was a strain on the relationship," the source said. "She was really young when they got married, and she still wants to go out and have fun. Mike's more of a homebody."

On Jan. 10 a rep for the actress announced that she and Comrie "have mutually decided [upon] an amicable separation," People magazine reported.

"They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time," the rep said in a statement.

While Duff was committed to working on her marriage, she ultimately felt as though she was the only one putting in effort.

"[She] felt [Mike] didn't put enough effort into the relationship," a source told Usmagazine. "Recently he wasn't doing any of the things they'd worked on."

On the day of the announcement the "Breathing Room" singer took to social networking site Twitter to assure fans that she and Comrie are still on good terms despite their impending divorce.

"Mike and I are sitting here... We are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together," she tweeted.

Duff has reportedly been working on new music in recent months and she will reportedly star in a pilot episode for a new comedy series called "Younger," according to The Huffington Post.
