During Hillsong's Annual Conference in Sydney, Australia this past July, the church introduced a new worship team, Hillsong Young & Free, who will be releasing their debut album We Are Young & Free on September 30.
The new group will better express the sounds of what youth are listening to in today's music and be more "hip" than the UNITED and LIVE worship teams who have followed their same formula.
They released their first single, "Alive" in July on iTunes, and it hit the No. 1 on the iTunes Christian & Gospel single chart. It also became the second Hillsong song to hit the Australian ARIA singles chart.
"Young & Free is more than a label, it is also our message and mission," shares Laura Toggs, team leader for Young & Free. "This is a generation called to stand strong in their youth and in their freedom, refusing to allow others to dismiss them for their age. Songs arising from Young & Free are unlike anything that we have ever done before, and we believe that through them young people will find life and deep, unending joy in Jesus. We are the voice of THIS generation."
Young & Free will be in the U.S. to perform at the first Hillsong U.S. Conferences in New York City on Oct. 4 & 5 and in Los Angeles Oct. 18 & 19.
They will also join UNITED on their fall leg of the WELCOMEZION tour.
Last week Hillsong UNITED released the Oceans EP due to the success of the song "Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" from the ZION album.
The EP has five versions of the song: the original, a radio version, a live version recorded in Denver during a UNITED's show, a remix version and an acoustic video with commentary on the song.
UNITED will be releasing an acoustic album on October 29 titled ZION Acoustic exclusively on iTunes. It will feature 12 ZION songs recorded live in Sydney, Australia.
