Hope Solo, though married, has had to deal with the influx of reports surrounding her nuptials to husband, NFL player Jerramy Stevens. Although she claims the couple is "happily married," a day before their wedding the couple was involved in an alleged domestic abuse, which has raised questions.
Hope Solo married Jerramy Stevens earlier this month on Nov. 13, but since then, it seems many reports have been focused on the soccer star's husband and his recent arrest instead of their marriage. Stevens was brought in Nov. 12 regarding an investigation about an altercation that left his then-fiancée injured. He was released on bail a day later.
Still, Solo dismisses those reports, claiming that the media has blown things out of proportion, and that she was never hurt.
"I would never stand for domestic violence," she said while speaking to reporters after a workout with U.S. teammates at Jeld-Wen field in Portland. "I've never been hit in my life. It's unfortunate, and that's what the media can do."
"My life is great, my life is happy," she continued. "It's unfortunate … what the media can do to judge before the facts are out there. It's hard to see, but it's a hard truth and part of life."
The facts, according to court documents, were not enough to prevent Stevens from being arrested the night before their wedding took place. Though Solo and her brother claimed three unknown men were the cause of the incident at their Kirkland, Seattle, home, authorities brought in Stevens anyway. For them, the NFL player admitting he was arguing with Solo and the cut on her elbow constituted probable cause.
Furthering the case against Stevens was his laundry list of run-ins with the law, from felony battery at a bar in March 2011 to reckless driving in 2001 and 2003, plus DUIs in 2003 and 2007. Solo maintains that her new husband, whom she has been dating since August of 2012, makes her happy.
"Like I said, we're happy, and ultimately that's all that matters," Solo said.
