'House of Cards' Season 4 Plot News: Parallels with U.S. Presidential Elections

Even though the new season of "House of Cards" is not set until next year, spoilers for its upcoming story line have been revealed.

It was reported that the season is expected to relate to the upcoming U.S. presidential elections. According to the series showrunner Beau Willimon, season 4 of "House of Cards" will be presenting parallels from the U.S. elections. However, he explained that the parallelism from the series was not at all intentional.

He explained that there is a possibility for the show to showcase similar ideas and events from the real-life elections, since the upcoming season is also dealing with a presidential election. Meanwhile, he explained that as a showrunner, he tries to prevent the series from showing real-life politics. To his defense, he also explained that the stories for "House of Cards" for the upcoming episodes were written before the U.S. presidential elections.

Another event that fans are expecting from the season is the possible death of Michael Kelly's character Doug Stamper. It was reported that Stamper will be killed off by Frank, played by Kevin Spacey. However, there are other sources that state otherwise.

There are also speculations that the upcoming episode will see the two reunited. Fans believe that Frank will be more powerful and useful with Doug, which will help him see victory for the elections. It was said that he will be assuming the position of Frank's chief of staff.

The upcoming season is expected to bring in a new vibe to the show. According to Willimon, it will present more emotional story arcs to engage audiences. He said, "We took a lot of risks with season three. We wanted to delve deeper into the emotional story. We wanted a little less political intrigue and a little more of the emotional flux. We wanted to tell the story of the marriage. I think there were a lot of fans that really appreciated that. And for a lot of them, this turn that we took made it their favorite season."

"House of Cards" season 4 is expected to air on March 2016.
