Houston Texans vs San Diego Chargers takes place on Monday Night Football in Week 1 of the NFL 2013 regular season tonight. The game is the second on today following the earlier start between the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles. It starts at 10.20 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
The Texans have progressed well over recent seasons and have overcome their first goal to make it to the playoffs and take part in the postseason. However, they will now be setting much bigger goals and will see themselves as serious Super Bowl contenders this season.
The Chargers meanwhile are going in the opposite direction. For most of the last decade they have been serious playoff contenders every year, and have made it on and off. However, they have fallen back in more recent times and now not many believe they will be making the postseason this year.
However, the Chargers get to play at home in this first game of the season and if they can use that to their advantage and claim a surprise win it could give the team confidence and a platform to surprise many people this season.
Last year the Texans had a 12-4 season, and they now have linebacker Brian Cushing back, which is a massive plus for them. Cushing of course tore his ACL in Week 5 of last year and missed the rest of the season. But now that he is back the Texans undoubtedly have one of the best defenses in the league and opposition offenses will have their work cut out.
That could spell problems for the Chargers, who have had a terrible offense over recent seasons – last year they were second to last in total offense in the NFL.
They also have Danario Alexander hurt, and Malcom Floyd and Eddie Royal are also injured, meaning they will really be up against it tonight.
Houston Texans vs San Diego Chargers starts at 10.20 p.m. from the Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif. And can be watched on TV on ESPN or watched online through free live stream by clicking here.
