How Much do You Trust Him?

All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, "We are your own flesh and blood. In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the LORD said to you, 'You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.' " When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a compact with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years. (2 Samuel 5:1-5) When David was hiding at the back of a cave, surrounded by his enemies, afraid for his life, how much did he trust God? When God told David to pack up his entire family and all of his followers and move to another country, how much did he trust God? David trusted God all the way. Sold out, one hundred percent, all the way. How about you and me? How much do we really trust God? We trust the tires on our cars not to blow out when we push our engines up to 70 miles per hour. We trust the cables on the elevator to hold when they take us to the fortieth floor in a building. We trust the chairs we sit in to hold us up, never giving a second thought to whether they will or not. Do we trust God as much as we do the things around us? Usually, the answer is no. Most of us don’t trust God as much as we trust a ballpoint pen to write when we press it to paper. But God is faithful with you and me. No matter how bad things look, we need to trust God that He is in control, that He is working our lives, that He is carrying out His plan for us. We, like David, need to learn to trust God all the way. “When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?” Psalm 56:3-4 From Dogwood Ministries, Inc. J-R-and-Bonnie@dogwoodministries.org Used with Permission
