Those waiting patiently for the HP TouchPad 2 will most likely have to sit tight a little while longer. In a conference call with analysts Thursday, Hewlett-Packard announced that the company will be focusing on devices running on Windows 8.

"I think we need to be in the tablet business, and we're certainly going to be there with Windows 8," Whitman said during a conference call with analysts. "We're going to make a run at this [tablet] business."

On Thursday the technology company announced plans to keep its PC division. Its announcement also informed people that they would make a decision regarding webOS in the next few months.

Since the TouchPad didn’t have an exorbitant amount of sales at the full price. HP made the executive choice to discontinue support for the device last August. But as soon as sales began circulating for the product, tech consumers went crazy trying to get their hands on the hot button item at $99 and $149 price points. The tablet buying frenzy made HP sell out of the product at rock-bottom prices, causing the company to promise one last batch of the sought after TouchPads.

Compared to the $500 iPad price tag, the TouchPad seems like a good deal. But is this the end of the HP TouchPad road? According to PC magazine, there is a chance the company will manufacture a tablet that looks like the TouchPad but instead of webOS it will have Windows.

Whitman said HP’s concentration is producing a device that pleases both IT departments and consumers. During Thursday's call with analysts, Whitman also said that it is common for popular technology devices like the iPad or iPhone to clash with a company’s security needs so HP is working to develop a solution with its new device.
