HTC 'Aero' News: New Smartphone Joining 'One' Series

After disappointing sales of its recent flagship device, the HTC One M9, HTC may be trying to win back consumers to its fold by releasing another new smartphone before the end of the year. HTC's CEO recently revealed to the company's investors that a new "hero" smartphone will be released in fall of this year.

The report cited a reliable source that the new handset has a codename – "Aero" – and it will be released in the market in Q4 of 2015.

HTC, according to the report, is one of the companies that valued design and the use of premium. When they released their "One" series in 2013, they distinguished their new smartphone from the rest of those in the market by manufacturing a phone with a unibody metal design similar to the iPhone, while the rest of its competitors used plastic for their devices. The next flagship phones that they released, however, were another matter, as it did not introduce anything new in the phone's design, while other smartphone manufacturers were introducing new phones with better designs.

The company has acknowledged that this has affected smartphone sales and because of this, their new CEO Cher Wang has announced that they will release a new "hero" smartphone in October. A reliable source also took to Twitter that the new phone is codenamed "Aero" and will available in Q4.

Rumored specifications include a 2560 by 1440 quad-HD display compared to the 1080p on the One M9. It will offer good competition for the current flagship phones of Samsung and LG. Without any other specifics, it is said to have a more powerful processor and a larger capacity battery.

In another report in TechnoBuffalo, the new phone will be launched with a different name and possibly be considered part of the company's "One" series. The tipster, Evan Blass, however noted that the new phone is not a high-end device but an "intermediate device."

The estimated reveal date for the new device is November, so that it does not compete directly with the new iPhone, or the new Samsung Galaxy which are likely to be revealed in September.

It is also rumored that the device is heading to Sprint and "other places."
