Android 5.0 Lollipop Update for HTC One M8 Review: Makes HTC One M8 'Feel Faster'

On Saturday, Feb. 7, HTC VP of product management Mo Versi took to his Twitter to announce that HTC One (M8) owners will start receiving the Android 5.0 update on Monday, Feb. 9.

However, those who have waited in the appointed time got frustrated to find out that the update hasn't arrived yet. T-Mobile pushed back the roll-out date.

On their support page, T-Mobile said that the 634MB software update will be available "beginning February 10" which will eventually take the particular smartphone from version 3.32.531.2 to 4.20.531.4.

Rummaging through tech websites, Adam Oxford of HTXT.Africa.com wrote his first impression of the new OS on the One M(8).

"The update to the HTC One (M8), with its much more powerful Snapdragon 801 processor (the Nexus 7 has a much older NVIDIA Tegra 3 inside) and Adreno 330 graphics cores revises our opinion somewhat. Unlike the Nexus, the One (M8) feels almost faster than it did before," the site indicated.

HTXT also said that users can see a lot of changes in the handset when they update it to the Lollipop operating system. Although "principally they're all about supporting the new notification system, which sees Google catch right up with Apple."

As described, the notifications now "appear as cards, and float over screens and lock screen without massively disturbing whatever you're doing at the time."

"It's slick and modern, and makes older versions of Android feel like Windows 3.x," the publication said.

For those who still haven't got the new OS version to their HTC One M(8) units, they can update automatically Over-The-Air (OTA). Usually with this large update, it may take 20 minutes or more to download and install. Phone owners are also advised to have at least 50 percent or higher remaining battery life, steady data connection, and more than 634MB memory space.
