HTC seems to be creating a new device that will replace its Ice Cream Sandwich-powered One V handset.

A picture of this unannounced smartphone code-named "HTC Proto" leaked this week and it is expected to be a reimagining of the One V that will receive a significant "bump up" in specifications.

The main change will be a jump from a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor to a dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8225 S4 processor. The rest of the specs should remain the same as the HTC One V so this new version will still feature 512MB of RAM and a 5MP camera.

The HTC One S started to receive the OTA (over-the-air) Android 4.0.4, Ice Cream Sandwich update throughout Europe last week. The update brings HTC Sense version 4.1 to the smartphone- the same software that is already available on the HTC One X.

Sense 4.1 brings big improvements to the One series, including a boost in speed that eliminates lag while using a live wallpaper.

Many of the app drawer's 3D effects have also been removed to speed things up, and it also uses a new kernel that is faster all around. Sense 4.1 is also said to be less taxing on the device's battery life.

T-Mobile began offering the HTC One S for $149.99 with a 2-year contract earlier this month.

The carrier cut the price down on the handset as part of a limited-time special that will end on Aug. 21.

Other carriers have dropped prices on HTC's other flagship smartphones including the One X in the past few weeks. This could be due to the company's plans to release a new HTC device sometime in the near future.

The device launched on the carrier back in April and is part of the company's One series that also includes the One X.
