HTX 8X Specs, Review: 'Old' Windows Phone-Powered Handset to Get Windows 10 Preview?

There are not a lot of Windows Phone 8 devices aside from the ones manufactured and developed by Nokia and Microsoft. However, that does not mean that the Windows 10 update is not capable of running on these smartphones.

Currently, only one non-Lumia device has received the Windows 10 Preview, the HTC One M8 that runs on Windows Phone OS. It was released a few months after the original One M8 was launched.

However, word got out that there is a new non-Lumia device that would be receiving the Preview.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the HTC 8X will also receive the update. Announced way back in 2012, the 8X was the WP-powered flagship from the Taiwanese manufacturer, alongside the company's One X, which was announced earlier that year.

As a refresher, the HTC 8X packs a 4.3-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, 1GB of RAM, a 16GB built-in memory with no microSD card slot, and a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Plus, with a 1.5GHz Krait CPU.

So what exactly does Microsoft want to achieve here by allowing the Windows 10 Preview to run on the 8X? Simple. It wants to prove that the upcoming "universal" platform operating system will be able to run on most devices.

Are you excited about the Windows 10 OS when it arrives for mobile devices?
