Huawei P9 News: May Come In 4 Variants, With Kirin 950 Chipset

Rumors about Huawei's next flagship phone, the Huawei P9, are emerging, with recent reports claiming that the device will be released in four variants, according to GSM Arena. A Tech Times report, on the other hand, claims that the device recently topped benchmark tests, indicating that it has a Kirin 950 chipset.

The Tech Times cited Geekbench results which reportedly showed the Huawei P9 getting a multi-core score of 7,313, which is better than the 7,037 multi-core score of one mystery phone which had a Helio X20 chipset. The P9 is rumored to be powered by an octa-core Kirin 950 processor, paired with 4 GB of RAM. Battery capacity is said to be at 3,000 mAh, while its software will be Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

The report also cited that leaked schematics of the device rumored to be the P9 showed that the device will have a dual main camera set-up, which is said to be a 12-megapixel shooter. In terms of the design, leaked schematics indicated that the P9 will have rounded edges and a physical home button. It is also rumored to be thinner than its predecessor, the Huawei P8.

A GSM Arena report, on the other hand, claims that the upcoming smartphone will have four variants. There will be a standard P9, a budget variant called the P9Lite, a P9Max which is said to have been listed in Antutu, and finally, a yet unnamed P9 with more powerful specs.

The higher-spec variant, according to the report, will sport a larger display and a bigger RAM and internal storage than the standard P9. This is the variant that will reportedly sport the 12-megapixel dual-camera set-up.

Earlier reports pointed to a CES 2016 launch which turned out to be false. The next big technology event is the Mobile World Congress in February. The GSM Arena report however said that Huawei is set to reveal the new P9 series after the MWC, which is rumored to be in March.
