Hugh Jackman Cast as Wolverine 'One Last Time'

Hugh Jackman will be playing the iconic character Wolverine one last time in the upcoming sequel of the "Wolverine" series of films. Jackman made the announcement through an Instagram post over the weekend, which showed a photo of his clenched fists, his Wolverine claws and a caption that said "Wolverine, one last time."

Jackman is reportedly hinting at the final sequel of the "Wolverine" series, which is reportedly due for release in March 2017. The still untitled movie is being called "Wolverine 3" in the meantime. According to a report in The Wrap, an insider confirmed that he is indeed referring to an upcoming movie which follows the 2013 "The Wolverine" film, rather than just an appearance in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" film.

Director James Mangold replied to Jackman's Instagram post.

"Can't wait to make this, HJ! Been toiling quietly a while now!" he said.

This news also confirms what was earlier made known by Jackman himself about the fate of his playing Wolverine and that of his character as well. Jackman said his next time would probably be his last.

"If I did another one I'm 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me," the actor told Screen Rant last year.

As for the storyline that the sequel may follow, there has been speculation that it may bring in some elements of the "Old Man Logan" story, which is set in a future where the villains have taken over the world and Logan is trying to live a life without using his claws. Another set of rumors say that the sequel may also take some of the story elements from the "Death of Wolverine."

Twentieth Century Fox has not confirmed any of these reports.
