A churchgoing father of 10 has emerged as the only undisputed hero in the aftermath of a wild high-speed brawl between a group of bikers and a wealthy SUV driver along the West Side Highway in Manhattan, N.Y., two Sundays ago after it was revealed that he saved the driver and his wife from the bikers' fury.

The father, Sergio Consuegra, told NY1 that he was on his way to church in Washington Heights when he came across the group of bikers beating Manhattan executive Alexian Lien, 33, after a confrontation and four mile high-speed chase along the West Side Highway that had left a biker from the group, Edwin Mieses Jr., 32, with a crushed spine.

He explained that what he saw and the "intense danger" that he felt forced him to intervene to stop the beating.
"I say to them, 'that's it guys. Let it go, man. Let it go. That's it. Just go, man. That's it,'" Consuegra said. "So we stood at each other, looking at each other's faces, and somehow, they stopped right in front of me."

Last Thursday the NYPD released a surveillance photograph showing Consuegra acting as a human shield for Lien, his wife, Rosalyn Ng, and their 2-year-old daughter with outstretched arms and a stoic posture during the frightening melee. The couple was on their way to celebrate their one year wedding anniversary and had their daughter in the back seat.

"At that moment, nobody's stepping in," Consuegra recalls during an interview with ABC 7.

He explained that he saw Rosalyn Ng being dragged out of the SUV by a big biker and said the young mother was told "you're going to get it too."

"He grabbed the lady by her arms real loud," said Consuegra.

It was a crowd that had gathered in the neighborhood that eventually pleaded "not the lady" which forced the biker to back away.

The brave father said he then jumped between the biker who was smashing Lien with his helmet effectively ending the attack.

"I felt tense. I felt that God was with me there," says Consuegra. "I said stop it, let it go. And then somehow one of them moved started moving and I said yeah this is enough now."

"At that moment I said, oh I gotta do something, there's a family in danger here," Consuegra added, "And they're gonna get killed, nobody intervened in this situation and nobody stepping in."
