IKEA Recalls 80,000 Faulty Baby Gates, Issues Full Refund

PATRULL KLAMMA Baby Safety Gates and Extensions Recalled Due to Numerous Reported Injuries

IKEA is recalling about 80,000 PATRULL KLAMMA safety gates and extensions due to reports that they can become unintentionally unlocked, posing a huge risk for injuries.

Injuries reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) vary from cuts and bruises to falls. A total of 10 injuries were reported, and two of these were concussions.

IKEA announced that the recalled gates were all sold online from their official site as well as in their outlets in the United States between August 1995 and June 2016. The PATRULL KLAMMA gates were manufactured in Denmark and were sold from $10 to $60.

Recalled Baby Safety Gate Models

The PATRULL KLAMMA baby gate is available in a number of models and designs. All their products were included in the recall. The public were instructed to return the PATRULL safety gates and extensions, the PATRULL FAST safety gates and the PATRULL KLAMMA safety gates and extensions.

The PATRULL KLAMMA safety gates, along with the PATRUL SMIDIG safety gates, were initially recalled by IKEA in May due to reports from consumers that they can become unintentionally unmounted from the wall. The gates were pressure mounted and could be easily removed by children. Reports also said that the gates did not stay in place, resulting in various injuries in children. CPSC then received around 18 reports of accidents. Three of these involved children who fell down the stairs and suffered injuries.

Safety, a Number One Priority for Any Home

Parents and caregivers use baby safety gates to prevent child access to potentially dangerous areas in their homes such as stairways, kitchens, bathrooms, work areas and so on. Having a dependable safety gate is very important for families with infants to school-age children.

IKEA has a number of safety gates in their children's safety catalog, and the PATRULL KLAMMA is one of the store's most popular and bestselling brands. One of the main reasons for their popularity is that its products are easy to install and require no drilling compared with regular safety gates. They are pressure mounted, and a simple spring mechanism allows the gate to fit securely between two panels or along a doorway.

Customers Urged to Return Safety Gates for Full Refund

IKEA has advised customers who have purchased the PATRULL KLAMMA gates to immediately stop using them and return them to any outlet to get a full refund.
