"The Inbetweeners" has been canceled by MTV, it has been confirmed this week.

MTV has decided not to renew the show for another season of the scripted series. The show was an adaptation of a popular British sitcom of the same name, and premiered its first – and now only – season back in August 2012.

An MTV spokesperson told TheWrap in a statement: "While we won't be moving forward with another season of 'The Inbetweeners,' we enjoyed working with the show's creators and such a talented, funny cast."

Joey Pollari, Bubba Lewis, Zack Pearlman, Mark L. Young and Alex Frnka were the stars of the show in "The Inbetweeners." Inbetweeners in the show were basically nerds and jocks, according to the show's descriptions.

In 2008, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley were asked by ABC to produce a pilot for a U.S. version of the originally-British show.

That pilot was not picked up by the network.

On 31 March 2011, it was announced that MTV had ordered a 12-episode first season for a U.S. version of the show.

A pilot episode, written by Brad Copeland, was approved in September 2010, and as the project moved forward Copeland also served as executive producer on the series along with Beesley and Morris.
