Indianapolis Colts vs Detroit Lions takes place on Sunday in Week 13 of the NFL, with the Lions basically needing to win this and every other game remaining this season to stand any chance of making the playoffs. The Colts meanwhile might not win the divisional title this year, but should stroll to the playoffs in their regular season run in. The game starts at 1 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
Before this season began not many would have predicted that the Lions would have been struggling to keep their playoff hopes alive at this stage of the season. They are a team filled with power and talent and some pundits had even been touting them as outsiders to make a run for the Super Bowl.
However, fast-forward to December and the Lions are bottom of the NFC North with a record of 4-7 and staring elimination in the face.
Many had been expecting to be talking about the Lions' superb passing offense at this stage of the season. However, the expectations that Detroit could be boasting the best passing offense in the league have gone unfulfilled, and instead the conversations surrounding the Lions have been about Ndamukong Suh's alleged kick to the groin of the Texans' quarterback Matt Schaub.
They come into this game on the back of three straight losses and look a team in disarray.
Meanwhile, the youthful Colts line up are exceeding pre-season expectations. Pre-season not many would have given this young side a chance of being where they are now, and especially with the team facing off-the-field difficulties such as head coach Chuck Pagano battling cancer, most would have excused the team to just gain experience this season and fade away from any postseason hopes.
Nothing could be more from the truth. The team, staff and fans have rallied around Pagano and the morale and feel-good factor surrounding the club at the moment is astonishing. At 7-4 they should make the playoffs from here, and if current form books hold true they should be able to win this game today.
Andrew Luck has been immense for the Colts this season, completing 255 from 449 attempted throws for 3205 yards and 13 touchdowns. If he can be firing on all cylinders today and get time from his teammates in front of him then he could lead the Colts to a good win today.
