International Staff Conference of Youth For Christ

Youth for Christ will have their International Staff Conference - General Assembly 2005 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, U.S.A. from July 1-7, 2005.

This year, G.A. 2005 will be a gathering of international leadership from all the world areas, which makes this the first time all four areas will gather in the same location to train for their particular area, called "Area Training." Having all the leaders together in the same place will facilitate fellowship, communication and developing cross-continental relationships.

The conference is for National Directors and Coordinators, Board Chairpersons, Area and Regional Directors, Board Members, Prayer, Ministry and Training Coordinators, and other key leaders of each nation,

The focus of this gathering will be "strategic": "YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement."

The schedule will include a Bible hour each morning followed by worship and prayer times, Area Training meetings, an evening program, and some free time.

Youth for Christ (YFC) has been working for sixty years, to give the message of Jesus Christ to young people.

"YFC was born in the mid-1940s through an impulse from the heart of God that simultaneously touched dozens of leaders in different places with a concern to reach out to the young people normal church channels were missing."

This led to dynamic young evangelists, using revolutionary methods, to conduct lively mass rallies in more than a dozen cities under the name of Youth for Christ. It soon became an organization and Chicago pastor Torrey Johnson was elected its first president, with Billy Graham as YFC's first full-time worker.

Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, over 4,500 full and part-time staff and over 26,000 volunteers use contemporary methods to remain on the cutting edge of youth evangelism, extending the frontiers of the Gospel (YFC).

Approximately 10 years ago God gave YFC a new ‘vision,' "to see that every young person in every people group in every nation has the opportunity to make an informed decision to be a follower of Jesus Christ and become part of a local church" and become a part of the "Body of Christ."

"Over the past few years [YFC's] vision has driven [them] to undertake an extensive period of worldwide consultancy, restructure and planning, culminating in the development of an exciting and innovative Global Ministry Plan (GMP)," which will... provide the framework and many of the tools [YFC] require[s] to make reaching every young person a reality."

YFC’s International GMP involves evangelizing the youth through peer to peer evangelism initiatives; developing young people to take on key leadership roles in the world; engaging in strategic partnerships with other like-minded organizations to achieve a shared vision for the young people of the world; a massive prayer movement targeting the young people of the world.

Most of all, YFC is intent on "challenging, nurturing and equipping the young people we reach to live godly lifestyles, to be devoted to the Word of God and prayer, to have a passion for sharing the love of Christ and to be committed to addressing social needs in their community."
