iOS 8.1.1 Update, News: New OS Suitable for iPhone 4S and iPad 2? Update Review

Monday, Nov. 17, Techradar reported that Apple has released another update for their mobile Operating System, the iOS 8.1.1.

Although the iOS 8.1 update was a huge improvement on itself, with an added Apple Pay feature and the return of the Camera Roll back, the 8.1.1 iteration "isn't quite as significant."

However, the latest update is a big news for people who still own iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

"You may be living in the past, but Apple wants to throw you a bone anyway, as the new update apparently makes iOS 8 run more smoothly on those fossils," the site said.

Previous reports indicated that the mentioned devices ran significantly slow with the older hardware specs. Not only has the processing speed been pointed out as a problem, but also the fast battery drain and the slow Internet connectivity.

With this in mind, the Cupertino-based tech giant released this November yet another update to better cater users of their older phone and tablet versions.

"Release notes detail a minor update, but one that give these two older devices a much-needed performance bump," added the site.

Several tech sites did made a hands-on review on the claims and this is what they found out.

TUAW reported that 32 hours after the smartphone device has been updated, "there isn't any app crashes" experienced, with "Safari being noticeably faster when browsing. The most significant however, is the "sudden addition of 300MB" of space.

iMore meanwhile cited iPad users discovering up to 500MB of newly freed space on their devices since upgrading.

"Battery life is slightly improved, but may only net you around an extra 30 minutes over the day," the website further reported.

"Sure, our devices have been discontinued by the manufacturer, but that doesn't mean we've stopped using them. Until then for iOS 8 using iPhone 4s owners iOS 8.1.1 is as good as it gets," the site concluded.

iOS 8.1.1 is available for free download through the Software Update section on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
