iOS 8.1 Released: How to Download, New Fixes and New Features Included

Apple has recently released iOS 8.1 which now comes with lots for changes and fixes. The OS update was unveiled during the new iPad and Mac presentation event on Thursday. The update was made available for download on Monday this week.

Among the many highlights of the new iOS was the return of "the beloved camera roll," as said by Apple software head Craig Federighi via CNet.

Also worth noting is the Apple Pay, the newest service offered by the Cupertino-based company to users who opt to purchase goods in stores and online shops in the comfort of their gadget's Touch ID.

There's also the inclusion of the iCloud Photo Library. Though still in Beta stage, the feature enables the user to access photos across all devices including Mac.

Users can also text using their Macs. With the iPhone on iOS 8.1 and and Mac at OS X Yosemite, one can see and respond text messages by way of iMessages.

The AirDrop to Mac feature also now works better with the latest OS.

The iOS 8.1 for all compatible iPhone (4S and newer), iPad (2 and newer), and iPod Touch (5th Gen) devices is reported to only take about 30 minutes to download and install.

The simplest way to do it is through the Over-The-Air software update mechanism and is wi-fi network connected. Download sizes vary on the device being installed, it could as small as 120MB and as large as 2GB.

One way to do it is to first "Back-Up" the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch with iCloud or iTunes. Users will then have to go to Settings>General>Software Update. Afterwards, click "Download & Install" and wait for the update process to complete.
