iOS 8 Upgrades to TouchID Fingerprint Scanner and Camera

Apple nears the release date of its latest and most highly anticipated flagship phone, the iPhone 6, as well as a plethora of other devices in its other product lines like the iPad and the iPad Mini. Alongside those releases also comes Apple's latest operating system, the iOS 8.

Apple is scheduled for a big event on Tuesday, Sept. 9, most likely the release of the iPhone 6. The iOS 8 will follow the next day on Wednesday, Sept. 10. This is based off the trend Apple usually follows with its releases where it usually releases iPhones on Tuesdays and iOS updates on Wednesdays.

The newest upcoming iOS 8 won't be compatible with all of Apple's current devices though as only devices from the iPhone 4S above, the iPod Touch 5th Gen, the iPad 2, the iPad Air, and all iPad Minis will be getting the iOS 8 update.

The iOS 8 will also be enabling other features for the TouchID fingerprint scanner, which is currently limited to being a passcode for the lockscreen and as a way to purchase content from the iTunes store. One such app which will be making use of the TouchID feature will be Mint.com, an online banking service.

The TouchID feature is only currently available with the iPhone 5S but will be made available for the iPhone 6, iPad Air 2, and the iPad Mini 3.

In addition to the upgraded TouchID scanner, iOS 8 will also be making improvements to its camera by adding a time-lapse camera mode. This will help users take videos of long moments while speeding up the video at a higher framrate.
