Apple has been experiencing significant technical difficulties in manufacturing the high-tech displays of its new, much anticipated iPad 3, according to CNET.

The displays are being manufactured by LG and Samsung, but the process is not going as smoothly as it should, the tech website reported last week.

"They have production plans for 2,048x1,536 displays. Starting in November. But those are only plans at this point," an undisclosed source told the tech publication. "It's not a question of making just one. That, of course, can be done. The challenge is making lots of them. This is a quantum leap in pixel density. This hasn't been done before."

If manufacturers are not able to hit the volumes necessary for the higher resolution, there is an interim option of 1,600x1,200, CNET reported.

Consumers can expect the iPad 3 to be released as early as March 2012, CNET reported earlier, via Japanese website, Macotakara. As The Christian Post reported Friday, the iPad 3 is reportedly being put into production early due to the Chinese New Year running from January 22-28. Chinese factories are reportedly aiming to have the first iPad 3's ready by the end of January.

If the rumors turn out to be true, the tablet should be thinner than the current iPad 2 (which could also mean it may experience problems with the previous iPad‘s docks and keyboards), with the expected screen size to remain the same. The new iPad may feature a 2048x1536 resolution that is four times higher than the resolution of the iPad 2.

Some sources suggest that the iPad 3 will have a quad-core processor. Though this rumor has not been confirmed, some also suggest that the iPad 3 and proposed iPhone 5 will have updated versions of the current A5 processor, which is currently used in the iPad 2.
