iPad 5 Release Coming October 22, T-Mobile to Carry Apple Tablets

The iPad 5 release date is expected to be on Oct. 22 and the tablet might actually end up being launched through T-Mobile.

The company's CEO John Legere sent out a tweet yesterday that mentioned the release date for the device.

"What has two thumbs and is excited for October 22? thisguy," he said on his Twitter account.

This could be a hint at T-Mobile carrying both the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint will most likely carry those devices since they already offer the current models.

Apple will host a media event on Oct. 22 to introduce the fifth-generation iPad and the iPad mini 2. Other devices and software set to make an appearance there include the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks.

The event's date was confirmed by AllThingsD, a site that has been pretty reliable in the past concerning information on Apple products.

"People familiar with Apple's plans tell AllThingsD that the company will hold its next invitation-only event on Tuesday October 22," wrote the publication. The focal point of the gathering will be the latest updates to the company's iPad line, but new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will likely get some stage time as well, I'm told.

The Oct. 22 event was also confirmed by The Loop's Jim Darlrymple.

The iPad 5 will feature a design that is quite similar to the iPad mini. This will make it considerably thinner, lighter, and will give it smaller side bezels. It's also expected to come with the same 64-bit A7 processor as the iPhone 5S and an 8-megapixel camera.

The new iPad mini will feature this new processor, an 8-megapixel camera, and a retina display. Recent rumors point to the device being in short supply at launch time.
