iPad Mini 3 Release Date Rumors: October 2014 Launch, Will Be Called iPad Mini Air?

The iPad Mini 2, or the more technically correct term would the iPad with Retina display, is almost a year old and rumors about an iPad Mini 3 has been floating around for quite some time. While Apple has not confirmed the release of the device, its history of yearly releases places the iPad Mini 3 to come out sometime in October.

The Sept. 9 Apple Press Conference was expected to reveal some details about the mini-tablet but the company stuck with the announcement of the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 release dates.

As for the naming convention, the iPad Mini 3 is speculated to be the iPad Mini Air. This could be of no surprise as most of their devices has at least one "Air" variant like the Macbook Air and the iPad Air. Though this is pure speculation, the theory stems from the rumor that the iPad Mini 3 will be some 30-percent thinner than the iPad Mini 2.

Nothing official has been release yet and it would seem to be that way until Apple themselves unveils the device. Specs is expected to match at least the iPhone 6's with the newer 64-bit A8 chipset. Display-wise, the iPad Mini 3 could still be the same size as the previous iPad Mini, with a 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 resolution display.

Storage options could be the same as the iPad Mini 2 as well, with a 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options. microSD card slots are still going to be unlikely for the Apple device. As for features, there is little to go with but the iPad Mini 3 could be getting a TouchID fingerprint sensor found on the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6.

There are rumors that Apple is planning an event in October, which could be where they are planning to unveil the iPad Mini 3 as well as the rumored iPad Air 2.
