iPad Mini 5 News, Release Date and Rumors: Apple Tablet Thinner But Faster? Specs, Features and Price Details

September is a big month for Apple lovers as the Cupertino-based tech giant is launching the newest iterations of its smartphones: the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

But there's another reason to get hyped up, Apple is reportedly set to launch a revamped iPad Mini 5: smaller, faster, and more powerful than before.

Although it is thinner at 5 mm, compared to the 6.1mm body of the iPad Mini 4, the iPad Mini 5 is not expected to have a radical redesign.

Given its slenderness, it makes sense that the new Apple tablet is made of 7000-series aluminum chassis to prevent the tablet from breaking or bending.

It's also rumored to sport an enhanced A9X processor for better gaming experience and 3D touch capability which uses pressure instead of gestures.

One downside, however, is the iPad Mini 5 having a smaller battery capacity than its predecessors, an inevitability given its slim build. The iPad Mini 4 is juiced by a 5,124 mAh battery.

Other features of the iPad Mini 5

It's also expected to ship with a pre-set iOS 10, though it's likely to have the same screen and photographic specs as its predecessor: 7.9-inch with an 8MP and 1.2MP for the rear and front shooters, respectively.

Moreover, the iPad Mini 5 will come in three variants: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal storage.

Lovers of the sleek Rose Gold on the iPhone will also be delighted to know that the iPad Mini 5 is likely to have the same color variant, a first on the tablet series. The new tablet also sports a water/dust resistant IP68 certification.

Price speculations, release dates

Based on previous releases, the iPad Mini 5 could be pegged at around $399 for the base model, just like the iPad Mini 4 when it launched in September 2015.

Reports also speculated that the iPad Mini 5 may be the new iPad Mini Pro. However, critics argue that the 7.9-inch screen size is too small for productivity, so it's likely Apple will be saving its "Pro" suffix for its bigger screen tablets.

Regardless, Apple lovers can agree that the Mini tablet series is overdue for a revamp. Fans of the Apple tablet need to hold on a little longer though as Apple is likely directing all its resources for the upcoming launch of the iPhone 7s and the MacBook Pro.
