iPhone 4S Case: Otterbox Defender Series Review (PHOTOS)

Many protective cases that shield the iPhone 4S from any harsh elements ⎯ and the ground⎯ were recently released.

Otterbox, a premier manufacturer of iPhone protective cases, released four series' of cases for the iPhone 4S: the Defender, the Reflex, the Commuter and Impact.

The Defender Series is a "practically indestructible, rugged smartphone case”, according to Otterbox. It is a heavy-duty case with soft bumpers, a hard shell and a screen protector.

The removable silicone bumper layer encases the polycarbonate shell and screen protector, thus making the iPhone 4S virtually impermeable to scratches, dust and liquids.

The glass and stainless steel chassis of the iPhone 4S is prone to damage if dropped. The Defender Series case covers the entire phone and leaves no angle uncovered.

Upon first receiving the Defender Series case, it may seem difficult to open. A user only has to lift the bumper layer and peel it from the shell to open the case. Once the shell is removed, open the clasps on the top and sides to separate the two parts.

Reassembling the case should be a lot simpler; however, users may find that some maneuvering is required to secure the bumper case around the edges of the shell.

Once the Defender Series case is on, nothing is getting in ⎯ nor getting out.

The case also comes with a holster-style and swivel belt clip for hands-free carrying.

The Defender Series retails for $59.95.
