iPhone 5 on T-Mobile to Be Announced at NYC Event This Week

T-Mobile is expected to announce its decision to carry the iPhone at its "Uncarrier" event set to take place in NYC today.

The company is the only major U.S. carrier out of the four that doesn't offer the Apple smartphone. T-Mobile confirmed its plans to carry Apple products in 2013 last month, which means an iPad could also be in the works.

T-Mobile USA was planning to release the iPhone in early 2013 in January, Reuters first reported.

T-Mobile confirmed in December 2012 that it has entered into a partnership with Apple in order to begin carrying its products in 2013.

The company announced the news in a press release that informed the public about the investments T-Mobile is making in order to further its business.

"Around EUR 6 billion is earmarked for rolling out the broadband infrastructure in the German fixed network with optical fiber and vectoring between 2013 and 2020," wrote T-Mobile. "In addition, T-Mobile USA has entered into an agreement with Apple to bring products to market together in 2013."

This partnership should bring significant market growth to T-Mobile as the company is the only major carrier in the U.S. to not carry the iPhone or any other Apple products, including the iPad and iPad Mini.

The press release did not reveal what Apple products T-Mobile USA would be carrying, but it is safe to say that the iPhone will be their priority.

Both the iPad and iPhone are currently available on Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T, so it should work the same for T-Mobile.

The first carrier to have the iPhone in the U.S. was AT&T, who started selling it in 2007 with the launch of the original model. Verizon began carrying the device in January 2011 shortly after the launch of the iPhone 4, and Sprint started carrying it when the iPhone 4S was released in October of 2011.
