As news continues to pop up about the release of the iPhone 5, rumors now indicate that there will be an Apple press conference in October to announce the date of the smartphone’s release.

In a touch of symbolism, the proposed conference on October 5 will announce the launch of the iPhone 5 with iOS 5. Apple is expected to confirm that the official release date of the iPhone 5 will be October 12.

Mobile gaming website Pocket Gamer details that the press conference is being scheduled by Apple to announce the release of new hardware.

"In the sort of hush-hush operation whereby we’d have to kill you etc etc, it seems that Apple is gearing up for a slightly earlier than previously expected iPhone 5 launch… Our inside source says there will be a press conference announcing the new hardware on October 5th, with retail release occurring a week later," Pocket Gamer wrote.

The newest hardware projected by Apple is the iPhone 5 however; there is also talk of a low-end iPhone reminiscent of the iPhone 4 for scheduled for release.

Rumors also indicate that a new iPod Touch may soon be released. Redmond Pie reported in July that a fifth generation iPod Touch with 3G capabilities could be released sometime this year.

But as the iPhone 5 remains Apple’s most anticipated release, various dates continue to circulate, including October 7, October 21 and even a “slip up” by Orange CEO Stéphane Richard that the smartphone will be released on October 15.

The iPhone 5 is expected to have various updated specs such as an iOS 5 upgrade, 4G capabilities and a higher resolution, 8MP camera, as well as a tear drop shape, a larger screen and a thinner, rounder body.

Other speculations indicate that the iPhone 5 will be priced within the same range as the current iPhone 4.
