iPhone 5 Release Date: The Cons of iOS 5 Revealed

Apple is a little under a week away from unveiling its new iPhone 5 which is set to run on the company’s iOS5 software.

The tech giant is expected to host an event on its Cupertino, California Campus on October 4 where it will unveil its new device and announce the date iOS 5 will become available to all Apple users.

Gottabemobile recently reviewed the new software and the tech site admits that Apple may be overhyping it.

For one, the site complains about the system’s navigation.

Gottabemobile was not happy with the feature and preferred other free services such as Google maps to Apple’s offering for navigation on iOS5.

According to the site, Apple needs to do a better job at creating a more efficient map based app that delivers real turn by turn navigation.

iOS’s feature does not provide a sufficient replacement for other third party navigation apps.

Apple has also failed in incorporating Widgets into iOS5.

Widgets allow the smartphone user to place a small live tile on the phone, which can be as small as an icon or the size of the entire screen.

The icons can show the weather, emails and social network updates.

iOS5’s Notification Center relegates the widgets to a pull-down which according to Gottabemobile, defeats the purpose of fast access to all types of information.

Apple has not made it clear if it will allow third parties to create widgets for its notification center.

One last con pointed out by the site is iOS5’s keyboard.

It has not changed at all since iOS4 which is disappointing to the reviewer.

Android currently offers a variety of high quality keyboards on its system which include Swype and Swiftkey, both which feature autocorrect, prediction and new ways to type.

iOS 5 is expected to be released sometime in October.
