iPhone 5 Release Rumors: No 4G Network for Next Generation Smartphone

As rumors about the specs of the iPhone 5 continue to swirl, experts are saying that one thing the Apple smartphone will not have is 4G coverage.

JP Morgan analyst, Mark Moskowitz stated on Monday that the highly anticipated iPhone 5 will support both GSM and CDMA cellular capability, but will not run on a 4G network.

Meanwhile, several carriers that currently power Apple iPhones are creating or expanding their 4G and 4G LTE networks, which has led many to believe that the iPhone 5 would in fact run on a 4G network.

AT&T has recently launched its 4G LTE network in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio and plans to have national LTE coverage by 2013.

Verizon has launched its LTE network in 102 markets, which gives 160 million people as of July 21 access to 4G speeds and capabilities.

But as the rumored October dates that have been proposed for the iPhone 5 release quickly approach, no official news has emerged regarding whether the smartphone will be running on the 4G network.

Reports indicate that Apple will be hosting a conference on October 4 where new CEO Tim Cook will finally divulge the release date of the iPhone 5; more details about the smartphone should be confirmed by that point.

Currently, the iPhone 5 is expected to have various specs such as an iOS 5 upgrade and a high resolution 8MP camera.

It is rumored that the Sprint and T-Mobile networks will be carrying the iPhone 5; both networks support 4G.

Other speculation indicates that the iPhone 5 will be fairly affordable and may be priced within the same range as the current iPhone 4.

There also remains a possibility that Apple will release two iPhones in the fall, one successor to the iPhone 4 and another cheaper prepaid model that is expected to run on a 3GS network.
