Foxconn and Pegatron, both well-known Apple manufacturers, have begun producing the iPhone 5 for a U.S. launch early in October, according to the japanese Mac Otakara website citing a Chinese source.

The devices are reportedly not ready for packaging at this point because Apple must install the iOS 5, Apple's newest mobile operating system.

For Asia, the launch would be delayed until late October.

The report also added that Foxconn would be responsible for 85 percent of the total iPhone 5 production while Pegatron would take a 15 percent load.

Although Mac Otakara's history for predicting Apple events are not 100 percent accurate, the website has had some hits in the previous months. Apple Insider is reporting for instance, that the publication's report this time is coinciding well with another separate report last month claiming Pegatron would be shipping iPhone 5's in September.

Apple's next generation iPhone will reportedly be faster than its predecessor. Powered by an A5 processor, it will sport an 8-megapixel camera, and the device should be thinner and smaller as well.
