iPhone 6 Plus Bends? Consumer Reports: Smartphone Doesn't Bend so Easily, #Bendgate Resolved?
The iPhone 6 Consumer Reports tests have come in, and it seems that the terrible bending Apple customers have been complaining about may be a bit overstated. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were compared to the HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, LG G3 and the iPhone 5, and the results were published Friday.
The iPhone 6 Consumer Reports stress test was a "three-point flexural test" similar to one of the tests Apple uses on its devices. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were held steady at both ends while increasing pressure was put near the middle of the device.
They found that the latest iPhone 6 Plus bended and was destroyed under 90 lbs and 110 lbs of pressure, respectively. The iPhone 6 and HTC One M8 began to bend at 70 lbs and were destroyed at 90-100 lbs. The toughest one to break was the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which withstood 150 lbs of pressure before snapping.

Still, all the smartphones are well within the acceptable range for consumer technology, according to reports. In addition, with all the controversy about #Bendgate since the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been released, Apple claims to only have received nine official complaints about permanent bending of the phones.
Although all of the phones were eventually destroyed, Consumer Reports pointed out that some of them still had functioning screens, and they were even able to make a phone call from one shattered phone to another. The continued use of the phones after being broken is a testament to their construction, the organization said.
"Our tests show that both iPhone seem tougher than the Internet fracas implies," Consumer Reports stated. "It took significant force to do this kind of damage to all these phones. While nothing is (evidently) indestructible, we expect that any of these phones should stand up to typical use."
