iPhone 6s News, Specs Rumors: Purported Next-Gen Apple Flagship Device to Sport 12MP Camera?

Word on the street is Apple is now moving forward from its usual camera specs by having its purported next-gen flagship device, thought to be called the "iPhone 6s," be integrated with a higher-quality 12-megapixel camera.

A report from AppleInsider cited one tech analyst who seems to confirm the recent speculations.

On his Sina Weibo account, IHS China Chief Executive Kevin Wong said (via Apple Insider) that according to his sources, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus maker will certainly produce an "iPhone 6s" with a 12-MP camera. However, Wong said that the pixel size will be smaller.

Several tech websites put in their theories based on Wong's claims. GSM Arena, for example, said that the "most obvious logic behind the decision would be to keep the overall sensor size unchanged, and consequently use the same optics, or at least minimize the necessary alterations."

GforGames.com also voiced their take on the story by saying that having sensors with larger pixels would tend to have less noise in its low-light images. But, this issue could be addressed by the Cupertino-tech giant thanks to the company's newest acquisition, the LinX Computational Imaging.

A report from Forbes.com said that LinX is a firm known for building miniature cameras for smartphones and tablets which integrate sensors capable of detecting depths of field in a single image.

"LinX's camera systems are able to generate imagery that look sharp in low light conditions and it supports faster exposure times in normal light conditions. LinX's technology simply offers single-lens-reflex (SLR) image quality without having to carry around a large camera. This acquisition further proves that Apple is gearing up to offer better camera technology in its future devices," the site wrote.

This week's tech rumors apparently echoed to the earlier claims from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who asserts that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sequel will sport the said camera specs.

Apple is expected to announce its new lineup of iPhones at the beginning of September. Until then, fans need to take these rumors with a grain of salt.
