iPhone 6S Release Date, Specs Rumors: New Apple Smartphone to Be Thicker?

Apple's annual press event every September is just over a month away, and with it is expected to come the much-awaited iPhone 6S, based on the company's previous naming schemes.

Aside from improved specs and better features, the iPhone 6s is expected to be another game changer in the smartphone industry.

However, in a new report by Phone Arena, it seems Apple will not be trimming, but instead adding to the waistline of its upcoming iPhone.

Based on the rumor, the upcoming iPhone 6s will be 7.1mm, or 0.2mm thicker than its predecessor. This may not be the biggest of news that Apple fans have been waiting, but this could mean several good things.

For one, the thicker frame could be the result of the inclusion of the Force Touch technology for Apple's latest devices. This technology allows the device to register different data based on the amount of pressure applied on a surface.

As a result, Force Touch would allow iPhone 6s users to assign different tasks or apps with every amount of pressure applied on the smartphone's screen.

The report also mentioned that the Cupertino manufacturer could be using rivets inside the display to help support the screen against various touch pressures.

The rumor came from a CAD/CAM leak that surfaced and hit the Internet yesterday. Aside from the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 6s Plus would also be allegedly thicker than its predecessor, Apple's first ever phablet, the iPhone 6 Plus.

In the report, the bigger iPhone would be 7.3mm thick, 0.2mm thicker than the previous version.
