IPhone 7 First Leaked Images Confirm Pro Design

Apple's upcoming smartphone, the iPhone 7, has recently received its first leaked images. The leak confirms most of the rumors surrounding the design of the iPhone that have been circulating online.

Japanese magazine Mac Fan has published an alleged schematics of the 5.5-inch iPhone. The leak details the design of the iPhone 7 Pro, which is reportedly the new flagship of the iPhone 7 generation. The iPhone 7 Pro is said to release with the regular iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus.

The leaked schematics confirms Apple will do away with the headphone jack. However, contrary to what previous rumors claim, there isn't any second speaker and the iPhone won't be getting any slimmer. The iPhone 7 Pro will be as thick as the iPhone 6S Plus (7.3 mm) and thicker than the iPhone 6 by 0.4 mm.

Industry observers like Forbes' Gordon Kelly and ValueWalk agree that removing the headphone jack is a "risky" thing to do, though taking risks is characteristic of Apple. Kelly adds that not adding a second speaker will be a "missed opportunity" for the company.

The schematics also show a dual lens camera, confirming previous speculation and leaked images. It isn't known yet how such a feature will work though. The dual lens camera is said to be included in the iPhone 7 Pro only, not in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Another rumored feature that the leaked image shows is a smart connector. A smart connector allows users to charge the iPhone while transferring data and could suggest iPad Pro-like accessories like external keyboards might work with it.

In general, Apple will be sticking to the chassis design it first introduced with the iPhone 6, which was released three iPhone generations ago. This confirms what KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said previously. However, it's worth noting that the iPhone 6S largely contributed to the 16 percent fall in iPhone sales last quarter. Retaining the design elements of the iPhone 6S in the iPhone 7 Pro could be a "big gamble" for Apple, Forbes and ValueWalk once again agree. The former, however, suggest Apple might be "biding its time" until 2017 when it is reported to release an "all glass" iPhone 8 in celebration of the iPhone's 10th anniversary.
