Now that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have been on store shelves for about four months, the time is ripe to begin speculating on the next premiere device from Apple.

Most rumors websites agree that the new iPhone will most likely debut in the fall, as have previous Apple smartphones. Both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus hit store shelves on September 25, 2015, just in time for kids going back to school to shop for new gadgets. It is expected that the iPhone 7 will be made available around this same time, to make the most out of a lucrative sales period.
A smaller model iPhone, perhaps the rumored iPhone 6c or iPhone 5se, could be released in the spring. The next big Apple event, which is rumored to be scheduled for March, is expected to be held for the new Apple Watch's launch. With two big releases in early 2016, it makes sense that the iPhone 7 will be launched later in the year.
Design and specs
As 2016 is an even-numbered year, Apple fans expect the consumer electronics giant to debut a new iPhone with some ground-breaking innovations. CNET suggests that the iPhone 7 could be the first iPhone with a water-resistant or waterproof chassis. Rumors have also surfaced about the iPhone 7 being the first buttonless iPhone. A German tech site recently published its own concept art of the rumored iPhone 7, revealing an iPhone with an almost-borderless OED display. The multifunctional home button and the Touch ID sensor are both part of the display itself.
One of the most widely-talked-about features of the new iPhone is wireless charging. This rumour follows Qualcomm's 2015 announcement that it has come up with a solution that will allow devices with metal bodies to charge wirelessly.
Another controversial potential change to the iPhone is the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. Should Apple do away with the headphone jack, it is expected that the iPhone 7 will come with a set of Lightning cable-connected headphones or wireless earbuds.
